Environmental Statement
Fortune Contract is committed to the
progress of sustainability. Being environmentally responsible
is good business, and it’s
right for our company and employees. We produce high quality
goods with outstanding performance to extend the life of
our carpets and strive to improve practices in our facility
to manufacture as efficiently as possible. We work continually
to reduce, reuse and recycle at every opportunity.
All Fortune products are certified by
the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus Program for low VOC emission
rates. To receive the Green Label Plus Certification, carpets
are submitted for rigorous testing to insure requirements
for low VOC emissions and are maintained in accordance with
the program. Products automatically contribute one point
toward LEED for Green Label Plus certification. Adhesives
and seam sealers are certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute’s
Green Label Plus Adhesive Program for low VOC emission rates.
As active members of CRI’s Sustainable Issues Committee,
we search for new ways to improve sustainability in the carpet
industry.
We continually seek materials with recycled content to decrease
our dependence on raw materials by creating products that
incorporate recycled content fibers and recycled content
backings for sustainable options in broadloom and modular
tile.
Internally, our streamlined operation facilitates maximum
flexibility with minimum waste. Carpets are manufactured
with pre-dyed yarns and use only high pick backing to reduce
carpet waste. The small amounts of overage yarn or backing
is reused in sample production, or sent to a local facility
for recycling. All boxes, yarn cones and pallets used in
the manufacturing process are reused or recycled. Recycled
content materials are utilized in all product folders and
stationery.
As part of our commitment to the environment, we encourage
the return and reuse of all sample material provided for
the product selection process. Postage-paid return labels
are enclosed with sample shipments to encourage the return
of unused carpet. We recycle or reuse return samples in an
effort to reduce the environmental impact of sample production.
We not only ask ourselves what we can do to reduce waste
and recycle, but we ask this of our suppliers as well. Premier,
our skein dyer, has installed state-of-the art systems to
eliminate wastewater effluent and reuse treated water. Global
and UTT, our backing suppliers, have aggressive programs
in place to reduce pollution and recycle all waste yarn and
carpet scrap.
Carpet products are available in a choice of fiber offerings.
